CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN Findings: 2021-001 Agency: The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and Subsidiary Name of contact person(s) and title(s): Tom Mlakar, Deputy Director for Advocacy Anticipated completion date: July 1, 2022 Agency?s response: The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and Subsidiary agrees with this finding and will implement the following corrective actions. Legal Aid management will notify in writing all staff who are responsible for handling cases, reminding them as to the requirements for executing retainers under LSC regulation 1611.9. Legal Aid management will develop a new error-checking report to review all open cases for a missing retainer. This report will be distributed monthly to the primary attorney assigned to each case, managers for the attorneys handling the cases, and the Deputy Director for Advocacy. Management will provide training and send a memorandum to all staff regarding: ? the retainer requirements, ? using the new error checking report to review cases for missing retainers, and ? the tools available in the LegalServer case management system for documenting and storing retainers. Legal Aid management will review the procedures and requirements with all managers. Legal Aid management will reinforce the need for managers to regularly review the monthly error-checking reports they receive to ensure compliance with the retainer requirement.
